Instructions to Connect to Our Wireless Network

To connect to the Internet you will need a wireless device compliant with WIFI 802.11b wireless technologies. If you have one in your laptop/notebook computer, open the properties of your wireless device and look for "Available Wireless Networks". Every device is different and every version of Windows has a different way of configuring wireless connections. Your wireless card may have software for configuring network connections. CLEVNET (caps count) should be present in a list of available wireless connections, or it might need to be entered in as the SSID. It is an infrastructure connection with no authentication/encryption.
Here is an example of the windows XP Wireless Configuration:
When you computer recognizes
that a wireless network is available you will receive a warning in the system
tray. When you click on it the message box titled "Wireless Network Connection"
(below) will appear and you will need to check the check box that states "Allow
me to connect to the selected wireless network, even though it is not secure"
then press the connect button. After that you should be connected to the Internet.
If you can't get the site you want, please continue on.

Double click on the wireless device's network connection icon in the system
tray that looks like this
. A status
message box will open. Click the "Properties" button. The "Wireless
Network Connection Properties" (below on the left) will open. Click the
"Wireless Networks" tab and then highlight CLEVNET in the "Available
networks:" area. Click "Configure". Make the window that appears
look exactly like this one titled "Wireless network properties" (below
on the right). SSID is CLEVNET, Network Authentication is Open, Data Encryption
is Disabled, and "This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network; wireless
access points are not used" should be unchecked.

Click on the "Authentication" tab and see that it looks like this:

Uncheck "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network" if checked.
If you still cannot connect to a web page it might be because that service is not allowed. Examples: HTTPS (secure http like most banks/credit card sites will use), FTP, or TELNET connections. Try a simple site like http://wepl.lib.oh.us or http://www.google.com. If either of those work, then you ARE connected to our wireless network. If you are using a palm pilot or a Pocket PC that is, or has, a WIFI 802.11b compliant device, then you will need to create a new connection with CLEVNET and make sure you turn off any authentication/encryption.
If you need more help ask a staff member and if they can't help you they will contact the technology staff for further assistance.
Thank You.
